A schedule change can mean that your original train booking can no longer be carried out as planned. In many cases, Deutsche Bahn (DB) will then waive the train restriction (Zugbindung) on your ticket.
What Does Waiving the Train Restriction Mean?
Once the train restriction is waived, your ticket stays valid. In line with Deutsche Bahn guidelines, you can take any alternative train on your booked route without buying a new ticket.
This may be the case, for example, if:
- a connecting train is canceled,
- travel times change significantly, or
- your originally booked connection is no longer offered as planned.
Available alternative connections can be checked in your booking or in the DB Navigator app.
Important: Please Check Your Booking
Following a notification about a schedule change, we recommend checking your trip overview independently via the Deutsche Bahn order search. There, you can view available alternative connections and adjust your further travel plans accordingly.
Display Your Ticket in the DB Navigator
You can transfer your train ticket from the Lanes & Planes app into the DB Navigator app (see also: Transferring a rail ticket to the DB Navigator).
Open the relevant booking under "Trips" in the Lanes & Planes app.
Open the ticket overview.
Click the "DB Navigator" button.
Alternatively, you can add the ticket manually in the DB Navigator. To do so, you will need the numeric booking reference/order number and the passenger's last name in CAPITAL LETTERS.
To add the ticket manually in the DB Navigator:
Open the "Trips" section.
Tap the plus icon in the top right corner.
Enter the order number and the passenger's last name.
This ensures that any updates to your train connection are displayed directly in the DB Navigator. Further information on managing digital tickets in the DB Navigator can be found on the Deutsche Bahn website: How do I load my digital ticket into the DB Navigator app?
Seat Reservations
Existing seat reservations may lose their validity due to a schedule change. If you take a different connection, a new seat reservation may be required if you wish to have a reserved seat.
You are welcome to request a new seat reservation through us. Please specify your preferred alternative connection and use our request form selecting the category "Seat Reservation (Deutsche Bahn)".
If you have any questions about your booking or alternative connections, our Support Team will be happy to assist you.
Passenger Rights & Compensation
In the event of delays, missed connections, or train cancellations, you may be entitled to compensation or reimbursement of certain costs, depending on the situation.
Further information on general passenger rights and how to submit a claim can be found on the Deutsche Bahn website: Passenger rights
Automatic Compensation with Lanes & Planes
If the Lanes & Planes Passenger Rights Service for Deutsche Bahn is enabled for your company, Lanes & Planes will automatically handle the review and submission of eligible compensation claims.
Delays of 60 minutes or more as well as train cancellations are automatically tracked, and the corresponding claims are submitted. Even in the event of a rejection by Deutsche Bahn, Lanes & Planes takes care of all necessary follow-up steps.
Please note: The automatic passenger rights service currently covers delays of 60 minutes or more as well as train cancellations. Other claims - such as those for additional expenses incurred or missing train carriages - are currently not covered by this service and must still be submitted directly using Deutsche Bahn's passenger rights claim form.
If you have any questions regarding the activation of the Passenger Rights Service, please contact your Implementation or Account Management team.
