What is this?
Sometimes a train booking with Deutsche Bahn can't be completed as requested — for example, because the selected seat or offer is no longer available in the meantime. In this case, we automatically inform you with a clear, understandable message about what happened and what to do next.
What you see when a booking fails
Instead of a generic error message, you get a concrete explanation of why the train booking didn't go through. In most cases, the booking attempt is automatically removed, so you don't need to contact support for this.
ℹ️ Good to know: In this case, you need to rebook the trip yourself. The failed booking does not remain in place and is not charged.
When several items were booked together
If, for example, you booked a train and a hotel together and only the train item fails, the other, already confirmed items are unaffected. You receive a combined message about this: which item didn't go through, and that the remaining items in your booking are confirmed as usual.
If your ticket has already been issued
In rare cases, a booking may briefly show as failed on our end, even though Deutsche Bahn has already issued a valid, paid ticket for it. This is checked automatically.
If a valid ticket is found, your booking is completed as normal — you receive your ticket, the invoice, and a confirmation by email, just like with any other successful booking.
When you should contact support
⚠️ Important: In rarer, technical edge cases, a failed booking may still need to be reviewed manually. In this case, our support team will reach out to you directly — you don't need to take any action yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to rebook my trip myself if a booking fails? Yes, in most cases — the failed booking is automatically removed and you simply rebook the trip.
Will I be charged for a failed booking? No. A failed booking is not charged.
What happens to the other items in my booking if only the train item fails? They remain unaffected and valid. You receive information about which item didn't go through and which ones remain confirmed.

Do I need to contact support myself if a booking fails? Usually not. Only in rare exceptional cases is a manual review needed — in that case, our support team will reach out to you on their own.
